The number of accepted students per year is capped at thirty-five (35) graduate students, of whom at least 9 must be graduates in Medicine and at least 9 must be graduates in Law.
The selection process for candidates, decided by the Academic Senate, is carried out by a responsible Three-Member Selection and Examination Committee composed of faculty members who have undertaken graduate work.
The object of the Postgraduate Programme is the study and research of medical, ethical, social, and legal issues that arise from or are related to medical and biomedical research and practice, biotechnology applications, healthcare, as well as health policy, with particular emphasis on contemporary developments. The aim of the Programme is to cultivate and promote scientific knowledge and research in the above fields.
The purpose of the Programme is to provide specialized training in the challenges of medicine, biomedical research, and biotechnology applications. The programme aims to develop skills for the production of high-quality research and scientific work. It also specializes professionals from various fields (such as physicians, biologists, and lawyers) to contribute to relevant organizations. Emphasis is placed on developing critical skills and preparing for doctoral studies, while the programme promotes continuous improvement and collaboration with similar programmes.
The Postgraduate Programme “Contemporary Medical Acts: Legal Regulation and Bioethical Dimension” is accredited with a total of 120 ECTS according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. It includes a unified curriculum and is structured into three (3) academic semesters of full-time study, while the fourth semester is dedicated to the preparation of the master’s thesis. The curriculum consists of three (3) compulsory courses in the first semester, of which one (1) is elective (30 ECTS in total), three (3) compulsory courses in the second semester, of which one (1) is elective (30 ECTS in total) and three (3) compulsory courses in the third semester, of which one (1) is elective (30 ECTS in total). Finally, the master’s thesis carries 30 ECTS.
*1 ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours of workload.
The Postgraduate Programme stipulates tuition fees set at the amount of one thousand eight hundred euros (€1,800) for each study cycle. Payment is made by the student themselves (or by a third party on behalf of the student) into an account of the Research Committee.
Tuition fees are paid to the Special Account for Research Funds of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.). Failure to fulfill financial obligations constitutes a valid reason for not granting the Diploma or for expulsion from the Programme.
The payment of tuition fees will be made in two equal installments: the first upon enrollment and the second before the start of the third semester, into a bank account maintained for this purpose within the Special Account for Research Funds at A.U.Th.
